Along with string quartets of Mendelssohn and Schubert, SFCRC captures the world premiere of "Intonations: Songs from the Violins of Hope" at a live concert from Kohl Mansion in California. The new chamber piece, written by acclaimed American composer Jake Heggie and set to text by librettist Gene Scheer, movingly commemorates the 75^th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The piece relays the powerful stories of strength as told by musicologist and author James A. Grymes in his book “Violins of Hope: Violins of the Holocaust - Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour.” The recording features mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, violinist Daniel Hope, quartet from the San Francisco Opera Orchestra featuring Kay Stern, Dawn Harms, Patricia Heller and Emil Miland, with youth solo violinist Sean Mori.
